Joel the Brand Designer
The Journey of a Unicorn
I have always been drawn to and gifted in helping others discover, explore, and grow in their identity. I heard it said once that “To truly love someone is to see the gold in them, pull it out, and hold it in front of them for them to see.” The true joy and wonder of helping someone see past their inner-critic to the truth of who they are is magical. So naturally, and it’s taken me an embarrassingly long time to realize this, it makes sense why I would be great at Visual Identity and Branding. Because branding for a company is seeing their gold, bringing it out, and revealing it to them and the world.
I love being a designer. I love the meticulous process of building something, growing something. To be able to take something from the vast void of the imagination and pull it into a physical creation that can be seen, loved, hated, and built upon. I feel like it’s the closest thing to real magic.
After about 10 years into my journey as a designer, I thought I was destined to be a Jack of All Trades. I loved so many different elements of design. The systematic nature of brand structure, the wild freedom of trying every different style until something fit, the building upon an idea and seeing it evolve....I loved it all! But as people around me niche’d down and focused in on their strengths...I had a hard time finding “my thing.”
And then I discovered it! Well, more realized it over time. All the things I love to do with seeing, creating, and implementing identities fit perfectly into the role of Brand Designer. MAGIC!
At the end of year four into launching Unicorn Creative, I’m happy to make the full-time shift to Brand Designer; as I get to do all the things I love in an even more focused and realized role. From creation to naming to implementation to product evolution, I love the process of branding, and I’m looking forward to working with you.
With Joy,
Joel aka Unicorn Creative
“Design should bring joy and delight to people's lives.”
What exactly do you do?
A few questions I get asked quite often.
My strength is strategic design. Brand identities and products that look incredible and work even harder. Logos, visual systems, verbal direction, digital presence...anything that helps your brand grow with clarity, confidence, consistency, and helps you hit those revenue goals is what I do best.
Nope. We work with bold ones. Whether you’re a household name or a hungry startup, I care more about your mindset than your mailing list. If you respect the process, value good design, and want a creative partner, I'll be a great fit.
Most full identity systems, when done well, take 12–24 weeks. A brand new visual identity takes 4-6 weeks. And product design varies based on the product type.
We can move fast, but it won’t be cheap.
Great branding takes time, but we understand that sometimes, speed is the strategy. If your deadline is non-negotiable and your budget reflects the urgency, we can shift gears and prioritize your project.
Just know: fast means full focus, and full focus means premium rates.
You’re not just paying for speed. You’re paying for priority, precision, and the same high standards in a compressed timeline.
It’s structured, collaborative, and deeply intentional. I start with a strategy phase, followed by identity development, refinement, and system delivery.
I lead the way, but your voice and vision shape the outcome.
If your brand is solid and your logo needs a tune-up, we can talk. But often, a “refresh” is a polite way of saying, “this isn’t working anymore.” We’ll audit what you’ve got and recommend the best path forward, even if that means starting from scratch.
Yes. Naming is one of my favorite meticulous processes. It’s part art, part strategy, and all about identity. If it’s needed, I can do it.
Because design should be rare, remarkable, and magical. I believe that you can be bold and kind, fun and professional all at the same time.
Still have questions?
Would love to hear from you.
